City Council Meeting Minutes
June 9, 2008
The City Council of the City of Lavaca held its regular monthly
meeting Monday, June 9, 2008, at City hall in Lavaca. Board members
present were Mayor Hugh Hardgrave, Aldermen Addie Heard, Mitchel
Brewer, Benny Hunter and Jane Ziegler, City Attorney Orville Clift
and Recorder Susan Weaver. Visitors present were Gerald Atkins,
Steve Hockaday and Ed Bitticks.
Orville Clift led the Pledge of Allegiance.
The Mayor led in prayer.
The meeting was called to order at 7:00
p.m.
The Council approved the minutes of the May regular meeting
as presented. (MB/BH)
The Mayor reported that the 2008 Crown Vic ordered for the Police
Department is now in service.
The Mayor presented an ordinance transferring
administration of the Local Fire Pension Fund to LOPFI. This action
is required by Act 1056 of 2007 which directs local plans to relinquish
administration to LOPFI when the number of surviving pensioners
falls below five. The Recorder read the ordinance in full. Mitchel
Brewer’s
motion to set aside the rules and place the ordinance on its second
reading by title only was seconded by Benny Hunter, all members
present voted yes. The recorder read the ordinance by title only.
Mitchel Brewer’s motion to set aside the rules and place
the ordinance on its third reading by title only was seconded by
Benny Hunter, all members present voted yes. The recorder read
the ordinance by title only. Addie Heard’s motion to approve
the ordinance was seconded by Mitchel Brewer, all members present
voted yes. Addie Heard’s motion to invoke the emergency clause
was seconded by Mitchel Brewer, all members present voted yes.
Ordinance 08-01 is in full force and effect from this date forward.
A copy may be found in City files.
The Mayor presented a proposed
policy on employee use of City vehicles. The Council voted to
turn this over to Orville for incorporation into our personnel

Orville will
have this in ordinance form for adoption at our July meeting.
The
Council voted to approve the proposed amendments to the 2008
budget. (MB/AH)
The Council voted to pay the bills. (MB/BH)
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
