City Council Meeting Minutes
February 8, 2010
The City Council of the City of Lavaca held its regular monthly
meeting Monday, February 8, 2010, at City Hall in Lavaca. Board
members present were Mayor Hugh Hardgrave, Aldermen Jane Ziegler,
Benny Hunter, Greg Gibson, Kenny Hobbs, Rick Edgerton and Mitchel
Brewer, Recorder Susan Weaver and Attorney John Verkamp. Visitors
present were Phil Beshoner, Steve Helms, Bob Brisco and Ed Bitticks.
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. Phil Beshoner led
the Pledge of Allegiance. Bob Brisco led in prayer.
The Council approved the minutes of the regular and special January
meetings as presented. (KH/BH)
Phil Beshoner presented the police report for the month of January.
Mr. Beshoner discussed a program created by Nixle, LLC, that would
allow the City to release neighborhood level public safety and community
event notifications by web, e-mail, and cell phone. Nixle is available
at no cost. Lavaca Alderman Jane Ziegler learned of this program
when it was implemented in Mansfield and asked Chief Beshoner to
investigate the possibility of Lavaca making use of it also. The
City will release more information about this important community
service at a later date.
Steve Helms presented the Fire Report for the month of January.
Chief Helms reported four fire calls and 14 first responder calls
for the month. Mr. Helms also reported that the brush truck has
been rewired and is performing much better.
The Council discussed the Port Authority and decided to leave
everything as it is.
The Council voted to table action on the resolution designating
authorized signers on the construction fund disbursement request

The Council voted to pay $2 per linear foot for permanent easements
granted to the city by property owners on Highway 96 and Nixon Road
for the installation of a new water line associated with the Franklin
Sebastian Public Water Authority construction project. (RE/MB)
The council voted to pay the bills. (KH/GG)
